The Federal Front, initiated by K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, is said to likely to fail as most of the opposition parties wish to form an alliance with the Indian National Congress (INC.)
After winning the Telangana Assembly elections, KCR wanted to form a third front party for the Lok Sabha elections, with an agenda of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) free and an INC free India.
With just a few months left for the Lok Sabha elections to take place, the idea to stand against the BJP and the INC seems impossible for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to execute.
B. Narsaiah Goud, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament of the TRS, said, “KCR did not go to the opposition meeting held by Mamata Banerjee as we cannot share a stage with the Congress. As it is, regional parties are not willing to give the party space, like in Uttar Pradesh where both Mayawati and Akhilesh did not align with it. Similarly, others will also do the same. We have to wait and watch.”
KCR conducted various meetings with the opposition parties of the BJP, such as the Trinamool Congress (TMC,) the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP.) However, the meetings were not fruitful.
The SP and the BSP formed an alliance against the BJP, leaving 2 seats for the INC, as they did not include the INC in the alliance.
On the other hand, the TMC is said to be striking an alliance deal with the INC after the United India Rally, the Save Democracy Rally and the Save the Constitution Rally.
Even if the TRS does not form an alliance, they are confident of winning 16 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, whereas 1 seat can be secured by the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM.)
Telangana will contest a total of 17 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled between April and May 2019.
