M. S. Dhoni To Receive Padma Bhushan On 7th World Cup Anniversary

M. S. Dhoni will receive the Padma Bhushan award today marking the 7th anniversary of India’s incredible World Cup victory in 2011. President Ram Nath Kovind will confer the former Indian skipper at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.  

Today in 2011 M. S. Dhoni hit the final boundary to give India the much awaited World Cup title. After 28 years, India beat Sri Lanka in the World Cup finals by six wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Dhoni scored an unbeaten 91 during the finals with a steady partnership with Gambhir. The legendary skipper ended the match with his famous six towards the long on region.

The third highest civilian award will also be awarded to 19 time World Champion English billiards Pankaj Advani. Apart from the President, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and MoS Home Kiren Rijiju will attend the dinner.

This year a total of 85 Padma awards were delivered in two batches. Earlier this year, President Kovind distributed the first batch of Padma awards. Indian badminton star Kidambi Srikanth, Tennis player Somdev Devvarman and 1972 Paralympics gold medalist swimmer Murlikant Petkar were among the Padma recipients.
