Visakhapatnam: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha announced the formation of a special task force to combat the transportation of ganja in the joint Visakhapatnam district. This initiative, ordered by CM Chandrababu Naidu, aims to significantly reduce ganja transportation within three months. The task force will increase check posts and establish a control room for better monitoring.
Minister Anitha emphasized that those found smoking ganja in groups will be arrested, and de-addiction centers will be set up. Additionally, cash incentives will be provided to individuals who offer information on ganja trafficking, with a special toll-free number to be announced soon.
Speaking after a review with city police officials, Anitha highlighted the gravity of the issue, noting that 1,252 people are currently jailed for ganja-related offenses in the united Visakhapatnam district alone. The minister also discussed plans to create awareness about ganja control in tribal areas and improve conditions for prisoners to communicate with their families.
