Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has accused the Indian government of facilitating the alleged water diversion by the Andhra Pradesh (AP) government. Speaking at a media conference at the Secretariat, he criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for claiming that Telangana needs only 200 TMC of Krishna River water, while asserting that the state rightfully deserves 500 TMC.
He alleged that had the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project been completed, Mahabubnagar district would have greatly benefited. Uttam Kumar Reddy also blamed the previous KCR-led government, accusing it of remaining silent while AP expanded Pothireddypadu’s capacity and constructed the Muchumarri project illegally.
Further attacking the Kaleshwaram project, he stated that Rs. 30,000 crore was spent, yet the project failed to provide water, instead benefiting select leaders. He highlighted that Telangana has never utilized more than 190 TMC of its rightful 299 TMC share from the Krishna River due to pending projects like Yadadri and Dindi, which remained incomplete over the past decade.
He called for urgent measures to secure Telangana’s water rights and prevent further injustices.
