Delhi: Union Minister Rammohan Naidu has reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to the development of Andhra Pradesh, announcing several key projects during a media conference in Delhi on Wednesday. The Minister highlighted the sanctioning of industrial smart cities in Orvakal and Kopparthi, as part of the government’s broader efforts to boost the state’s economy and infrastructure.
Minister Rammohan Naidu revealed that the central government has allocated 2,596 acres for the development of an industrial hub in Kopparthi, Kadapa district. This hub, falling under the Visakha-Chennai Industrial Corridor, will see an investment of ₹2,137 crores and is expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 54,500 people. The focus of this hub will be on the manufacturing sector, driving growth and job creation in the region.
Similarly, an industrial corridor will be developed on 2,621 acres in Orvakal, Kurnool district, with a budget of ₹2,786 crores. This project is anticipated to generate around 45,000 jobs, significantly benefiting the Rayalaseema region. The Union Cabinet has given its approval for these two smart cities in Andhra Pradesh, demonstrating the Centre’s commitment to the state’s development.
Minister Naidu also mentioned the Hyderabad-Bangalore and Visakha-Chennai corridors, which are set to be developed as part of the central government’s initiative to strengthen the state’s industrial and transportation infrastructure.
Regarding the ongoing Polavaram project, Minister Naidu assured that the Centre is on track to approve ₹12,000 crores for its completion. He stated that these funds would be released by November when the construction works are set to resume. Reflecting on the last five years, Naidu noted that Andhra Pradesh has lagged in several areas but expressed optimism, pointing to the “double engine growth” being witnessed under the current government.
