Paris: In the French capital, the Galleries Lafayette department store always has a sumptuous tree-any excuse for an afternoon of shopping.
Vienna: In tribute to the victims of the recent terror attacks of Paris, Christmas tree outside of the city hall in Austria’s capital, was lit in the blue,white and red colors of France’s national flag.
London: Head to Trafalgar Square to see the traditional Norwegian Christmas Tree, donated by Oslo to the people of London. It was lit by Her Highness Princess Astrid of Norway on December 3.
London: Also of note in London this year was this pub, The Churchill Arms in Kensington, which decorated its exterior with as many Christmas trees as it possibly could, becoming a living forest.
Washington: Barack Obama and the First Family flipped the switch to light the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse, near the White House, on Decmeber 3. President Calvin Coolidge lit America’s first National Christmas Tree, a 14.6 meter high Balsam fir, in 1923.
New York: This spruce is being decorated outside the New York Stock Exchange in Manhattan. Sting performed in the turning on ceremony of the city’s other popular seasonal tree, at the Rockefeller Centre. Giant angels lit up the streets around it.
Brussels: The Grand Place is where to see Brussels’ most important tree.
Bethlehem: Bethlehem is an atmospheric place to spend Christmas in. The traditional annual lighting ceremony of the main tree in the West Bank town took place on December 5.
Beirut: Elsewhere in the Middle East, giant baubles line the base of the large festive tree in downtown Beirut.
Vatican: Back in Europe, who else but the Pope lit the lights on the Vatican’s annual tree. Here, Pope Francis is seen blessing the crowd from the window.
