Huzurabad: A protest led by BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy demanding the release of the second tranche of Dalit Bandhu funds took a tense turn. The protest began at Ambedkar Square with Dalit families, but a brief scuffle between police and protesters led to a woman being slightly injured. Joined by Dalit families, Kaushik Reddy staged a sit-in at Ambedkar Square for around an hour, blocking traffic on the Karimnagar-Warangal road. Police later intervened, taking Reddy into custody. Due to breathing issues, he was taken to a local hospital for a medical check-up.
Kaushik Reddy alleged that the police used excessive force on his supporters during the protest. Responding to the incident, BRS Executive President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) questioned the police’s treatment of an MLA advocating for Dalit issues, calling it an attack on democracy. He stated that the police seemed to be following the ruling government’s orders and promised that if BRS returns to power, they will hold officers accountable.
Additionally, former Minister Harish Rao reached out to Kaushik Reddy to check on his well-being, assuring him of party support and advising legal action.
