Presidential candidates Ram Nath Kovind and Meira Kumar are all set to visit Chennai today. This is an attempt to appeal to local ministers of political parties and to gain their support.

Kovind and Meira, both Dalit leaders, were chosen by NDA and UPA respectively. Kovind is set to meet the AIADMK factions, AINRC of Puducherry MLAs and O. Rajagopal, who is the lone legislator of BJP in Kerala.

Kovind will meet Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, K. Palaniswami at the Kalaivanar Arangam. Later he will meet the AIADMK faction at the Russian Cultural Centre. Kovind, however, has no plans to meet T.T.V. Dinakaran the deputy general secretary of AIADMK Amma. This is despite the followers of Dinakaran being present at the Kalaivanar Arangam.

Meira Kumar is scheduled to arrive at Chennai by 5 P.M. She is set to seek the support of DMK and also the Congress Legislators in Chennai. A press release by the Congress party said she would meet the nonagenarian DMK president M. Karunanidhi at his residence in Gopalapuram by 8 P.M.

She is set to depart to Puducherry on July 2 in early hours to Kerala and meet the Congress legislators there.
