TDP To Bring No Confidence Motion Against NDA

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) plans to move a no-confidence motion against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government at the Centre in the upcoming monsoon sessions of the Parliament.

TDP was the biggest ally of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in South India during the 2015 General Elections. The BJP had promised to grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh after it’s bifurcation and formation of the Telangana State. The special status would lead to an inflow of more funds required to establish the new State Capital, bring up revenue generation and so on.

The Special Category Status has been a serious concern for the CM. After the NDA Government was formed, BJP led government at the Centre did not fulfill its promise to TDP and therefore, Naidu broke the alliance and pulled his ministers from the Union Cabinet.

Naidu tried to bring a no-confidence motion earlier this year but failed due to the repeated adjournments in the Parliament.

Andhra Pradesh will see State Elections next year. TDP, the ruling party has been under a lot of pressure from the regional opposition parties for not being able to secure the Special Category status after it’s first tenure in the Government.
