On Thursday, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (HMWSSB) served a notice to the Chutneys restaurant at Banjara Hills. The notice was sent after reports revealed the restaurant was pumping rain water into the city’s sewer network.

Officials from HMWSSB along with the General Manager M. Prabhu, they inspected the restaurant and found that they were causing a manhole to overflow at Nagarjuna Circle.

The circle is one of the busiest ones in the city and the overflowing manhole was causing inconvenience to travelers.

M. Prabhu reported, “We found that the restaurant workers used to pump the rainwater stagnating in the cellar through the Water Board sewer network. They were dumping waste as well, choking the manhole. The entire road was inundated with sewerage water.”

The overflowing sewage led to authorities having the road excavated and realized the overflow was due to solid waste blocking the sewer line.

The officials suspected eateries around the area to be responsible for dumping solid waste in the five meter sewer trunk.

Due to this, other manholes connected started to overflow and get blocked as well.

The recent showers in the city caused Panjagutta to get waterlogged more than it should cause commuters to take over 90 minutes to travel from Nizampet to Panjagutta which actually takes only 40 minutes.
