Donald Trump Tweeted transgender people would not be allowed to serve in the armed forces. Five active duty transgender service members have filed a lawsuit against the president.

On Wednesday, the five armed forces members filed the lawsuit under the pseudonym of Jane Doe at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
The lawsuit argues the banning of transgender people on the basis of their gender would be constitutional discrimination.

The lawsuit further pointed out the administration could not make present transgender people to leave their military career for being true to themselves.

The National Centre for Lesbian Rights and LGBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders were the two groups that organized the case.

Other rights groups are waiting for the motion to be put into practice. Lambda, American Civil Liberties Union and Outserve have said they are preparing a lawsuit but are waiting for the issuing of a formal guidance for the military or putting the statement into action.

Donald Trump’s Tweet read that the government “will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the US Military.”

The attorneys of the service members have asked the federal court in Washington to be put an immediate stop to this new rule.
