The residents in the area of Ramanthapur, Hyderabad are living in constant fear of being attacked by dogs. The area has reported 11 people have been injured including 9 children, by stray dogs in the area.
Among the 11 injured, 4 of them have sustained serious injuries. The injured were rushed to the Super Speciality Veterinary Hospital in Naryanaguda. Some of the injured were later taken to Niloufer Hospital.
Among the injured was a three year old boy, Nitin who suffered a number of injuries to his face.
The mother of Nitin, Rajeshwari reported the incident, “My child went out to answer the call of nature. After a few minutes, I was shocked to see my child bleeding and crying. The residents of our locality said he had been attacked by dogs, and we rushed to the veterinary hospital at Narayanaguda. I request the authorities to take immediate measures to curb the dog menace in our area.”
In the past two days, the area has had a number of dog bite cases and locals have been advised to stay indoors.
The dogs in the area are facing a lack of food, initially, the dogs ate piglets in Kamakshipuram of Ramanthapur and have been attacking the locals ever since the shortage of food.
“We have been complaining to the GHMC, but no one visited the colonies. The dog population has increased in this area. They kill piglets and feed on them and when there was no food left, they attacked humans,” one of the residents said.
According to the GHMC officials, they have been sending dog vans to the area.
The incident caught the attention of the State Human Rights Commission and they have asked the municipal corporation to give them a report on the menace the dogs are creating in the area.
Veterinary Officer of GHMC, P. Rama Krishna Rao said, “We have already responded to the complaint and we have caught five dogs. We will also conduct a special drive in that area.”
