Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government is set to inaugurate 100 Anna canteens on August 15, aimed at addressing the hunger of the poor. This launch will mark the first phase of the initiative, with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu scheduled to inaugurate a canteen in Gudivada, Krishna district, on Independence Day.
The program’s rollout in Uttarandhra districts has been postponed due to the notification of MLC elections. However, the government plans to open additional canteens in 33 municipal and city corporations across other districts. Municipal Administration Minister Narayana has been overseeing the setup, coordinating with officials to finalize locations and numbers.
Minister Narayana also inspected the Akshaya Patra kitchen in Atmakuru, Mangalagiri Mandal, Guntur District. He confirmed that Akshaya Patra will handle food distribution for the new canteens. Speaking to the media, Narayana highlighted the previous success of Anna canteens, which provided 4.60 crore meals at a cost of just Rs 5 per meal before being discontinued under the previous government. The aim is to reopen 180 canteens in rural areas and strategic locations such as markets and hospitals frequented by the poor.
