In a inhumane case, a 17 year old girl was forcefully made to eat buffalo dung in order to exorcise evil spirits that had apparently possessed her.
The police reported on Tuesday the incident happened at Dhangarwadi village, near Chakur in Maharashtra. The incident came to light when a villager went to the police to file a complaint.
Sources have revealed the girl and two other women relatives were demeaned to be possessed because they argued with the men in the family on a regular basis.
The family members forcefully took the three of them to a god man of a village in neighbouring Karnataka’s Bidar district. The tantric claimed that he would be able to exorcise the evil spirits from the women.
The girl was furious and protested the family members action, to which the tantric got angry and ordered the family to tie her up.
Once the family tied the girl down, the tantric forcefully stuffed buffalo dung into her mouth which she choked on and was made to swallow.
While the bizarre ritual was taking place the girl allegedly gave a name of a person who was practicing black magic that was affecting humans and cattle.
The man who’s name was taken feared for his safety and lodged a complaint on Sunday naming at least five of the accused.
Some of the accused have absconded and the police have launched an investigation and are looking for them in neighbouring villages.
The sadistic ritual was secretly videotaped and went viral on social media. This caught the attention of Civil Society member Hamid Dabholkar who was strongly against this and demanded immediate action.
Superintendent of Police Shivajirao Rathod has not been available for a comment even though the case has attracted a lot of attention.
