Presidential Elections: BJP To Meet Sonia Gandhi On Friday: The three member BJP panel formed to consult political parties for selecting a candidate for the upcoming presidential polls is all set to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi On Friday. According to reports, the panel of Ministers, after meeting with Ms. Sonia Gandhi, will also meet Sitaram Yechury of CPI-M on the same day.
The BJP President Amit Shah appointed Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and Venkaiah Naidu in this panel on June 12. They are expected to hold talks with the opposition and also allies in an attempt to select a consensus candidate for the presidential polls.
According to reports, Naidu has already approached Satish Chandra Misra of BSP and Praful Patel of NCP and held talks on this matter. The BSP and NCP ministers are also expected to meet the panel shortly and have assured to take a call after meeting the panel.
The polls will held on July 17 and notification was issued today. This marks the beginning of the nomination process. The last day for filing nomination is June 28.
