Meet Arav Hak – The Boy Who Raised 9 Lakhs To Help Cancer Patients

Today I am going to tell you about a young hero who was featured on a popular social media page called ‘Humans Of Bombay‘ and what made people talk about him. Arav Hak who is a student in the 7th grade is a Mumbai resident who has been helping children suffering from cancer and has raised Rs. 9.72 lakhs. What else did he do? Arav managed to arrange a movie screening for the children and is all set to run the Standard Charted Mumbai Marathon to raise awareness for the cause of children with cancer. Arav’s move encouraged people and received support for the cause.

Arav said, “To have that many people appreciate what I did was really awesome. Many have called since to find out how they can donate money. We were able to raise an additional two lakhs since the post.

The money collected will go towards the Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation which provides care and assistance to the underprivileged cancer patients. But you must be wondering how did the young boy manage to get support from people and how did he start his journey to dedicate his time for the cause. Arav reached out to his mother’s contacts, family, and friends and gradually worked his way from there. But balancing his school homework and raising funds at the same time was quite challenging. “The first two months when I was trying to raise money were especially hectic. I would do my school work and my homework on the bus and then when I would get home, I would head out to meet people to get them to contribute.”

Apart from raising funds, Arav is inspired to continue his work for the cause of cancer children he met along the way. Around 100 children were present at the movie screening arranged by Arav and his mother. Arav said, “There is one boy I met called Anubhav, who has cancer and it had spread to his leg. The doctors had to amputate it but the way he had gotten through that ordeal and the kind of strength he showed afterward has really inspired me.”

Arav advised the younger generation to discover what one is passionate about. Arav added saying, “You should not give up too easily. There will be many people who will tell you ‘no’. But that’s your cue to go and find more people who will say ‘yes’ and contribute.” Can you believe that a 7th-grade boy would inspire you with his story? You can be a change too. Discover your passion and work towards achieving the impossible!
