60 Rajya Sabha MP’s issue impeachment notice to HC judge

Over 60 Rajya Sabha MP’s issued an impeachment notice against the Hyderabad High Court judge C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy on Monday. This incident took place after the judge allegedly used unparliamentary and derogatory language against one of his Dalit colleagues and also amassed assets that do not tally with his earnings. These MP’s have submitted the impeachment notice to Hamid Ansari, the Chairperson of Rajya Sabha. He is yet to give a ruling on the impeachment notice.

The Justice apparently spoke about reservations and mocked the reservation system in India. He and his brother Mr.Pavan Kumar Reddy have also been involved in possessing illegal assets. These assets do not tally with their income. A case was filed against the brothers which was later scrapped. The CPI leader and Rajya Sabha MP, D.Raja issued a statement, “Around 61 MPs, including I, have signed this petition. We are awaiting Hamid Ansari’s ruling on this matter.” These 61 signatures include Several MPs from the Telegu Desam Party. The impeachment petition against the High Court Judge read, that there is an allegation made by Mr. Rama Krishna, formerly a principal junior civil judge, Rayachoty, Kadapa district. He is currently suspended and according to the statement, Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy forced Mr. Rama Krishna to remove the name of a Mr. Pavan Kumar Reddy, who is the brother of Justice Nagarjuna Reddy, from the registered case. The dying declaration recorded by Mr. Rama Krishna read the same when he was posted as magistrate at Rayachoty. The alleged Mr. Pavan Kumar Reddy is an additional public prosecutor of Rayachoty courts.

The issue where Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy supposedly used derogatory language against a colleague and had collected assets disproportionate to his income. This income involved his brother Mr.Pavan Kumar Reddy the brother of Justice Reddy. It is in this regard the MP’s filed for an impeachment and are waiting for the decision of the Chairperson.
