Amaravati: Retired IAS officer PV Ramesh has called on the Andhra Pradesh government to take immediate corrective measures in the power sector, highlighting discrepancies in decisions made under Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s regime. He criticized the cancellation of renewable energy contracts and alleged favoritism in solar power deals, which have negatively impacted the state’s power companies and consumers.
In June 2019, the state government canceled 23 renewable power project contracts, collectively producing 2,132 MW, from nine developers. However, in December 2021, the same government signed an agreement to purchase 7,000 MW of solar power through SECI from a single developer. PV Ramesh alleged that these contradictory decisions benefited select individuals, particularly Tama Basu, a key figure in the deals.
He also pointed to the involvement of two IAS officers who allegedly facilitated these developments, causing a significant financial burden on power companies and resulting in higher electricity tariffs for consumers. He urged the government to investigate these actions and take strict measures against those responsible.
The retired officer emphasized the need for transparency and accountability to prevent further strain on the power sector and to protect consumer interests.
