Tamil Nadu is Prepared For The Heavy Rains

The Northeast monsoon is lashing the Southern coast of Tamil Nadu but according to state Ministers, the situation is under control. The minister boasted off saying Tamil Nadu was better prepared for rains than certain developed countries.

Tamil Nadu’s Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani said, “It rained in Bengaluru recently, earlier it rained in the UK and US and we were told it was flooded everywhere. It shows our action is better than those of developed countries.”

Officials have ordered schools in Chennai and other coastal districts in Tamil Nadu to remain shut as the meteorological office warned another day of heavy rains. Overnight, 4 cm of rain was recorded that lasted till 5:30 A.M., this morning. Although schools have been ordered to stay closed, colleges in Chennai are open.

The capital city has remained free of waterlogging but many suburbs are facing waterlogging and traffic jams. Many fear the heavy rains may lead to the fatal floods of 2015.

Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar assured the public and said, “We have the capacity to handle the situation like the foreign countries. We are prepared.”
