Vijayawada: AP Congress President YS Sharmila has issued a sharp critique against YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, condemning his decision to step into the Andhra Pradesh Assembly only after being accorded opposition status. In a pointed statement, Sharmila questioned Jagan’s commitment to representing the people, alleging that his actions are driven by personal pride rather than public duty.
“The people elected you not to make excuses or stay at home. Your responsibility is to stand in the Assembly and voice their concerns,” Sharmila stated. She argued that avoiding Assembly sessions due to a lack of opposition status reflects a misunderstanding of democratic responsibility, calling it “proof of ignorance.”
Sharmila drew comparisons with past Congress leaders, noting that in 1994, despite having only 26 seats, Congress maintained a strong presence in the House. Similarly, she highlighted that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge raised critical public issues without formal opposition status.
Sharmila urged Jagan and his party to refocus on highlighting government failures within the Assembly. “If you lack the courage to attend the Assembly, the entire YSRCP Legislative Party should consider resigning,” she concluded.
