Airtel Set To Invest Rs 1,00,000 Crore In Digital India Initiative

India’s telecom major, Bharti Airtel has affirmed that it will invest over a lakh crores in Digital India initiative. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Digital India campaign in a bid to boost digitalization in India, and to further boost this campaign, Bharti Airtel announced that it will invest over $16 billion approximately Rs 1,00,000 crores in support of the initiative.

While speaking during the launch of the initiative, Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said “We will make a very meaningful contribution to your initiative of Digital India. We commit to spend in excess of Rs. 1,00,000 crores (about $16 billion) over the next five years,”

He further said that the investment would be optimally used to further strengthen the digital connectivity in India by enhancing the current infrastructure and ensuring that people across the country enjoy the high speed 4G connectivity.

“We are product of Digital India in the early days right from 1983-84 and I have seen what power of technology has done to the country and what it can do in future. A lot has been done. Most of the country is covered with radio signal. Most of the people have telecom connectivity,” Mittal said.

Sunil Mittal applauded government’s vision and farsightedness over digitalizing India which will empower not just communication but various other departments as well like health, education, and e-governance can be delivered through these initiatives only.

Lauding the government and Indian PM’s vision Mittal said “We at Airtel are fully committed to stand behind this vision. A company which has pride to be only Indian company to be the third-largest mobile company in the world. We will make very meaningful contribution to the initiative of Digital India,”
