New Delhi: A delegation from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), led by MPs Gumma Thanuja Rani and Gurumurthy, and including Women’s Wing President Varudu Kalyani along with former MPs Goddeti Madhavi and Chinta Anuradha, met with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Women’s Commission (NWC) to seek action against rising incidents of violence targeting women in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to the media, YSRCP MPs Maddila Gurumurthy (Tirupati) and Gummadi Tanuja (Araku) expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation, linking the rise in crimes against women to the Telugu Desam Party’s governance. They reported 77 recent cases of rape and murder, emphasizing how women increasingly feel unsafe, even during daylight hours.
The delegation also criticized the government for dismantling critical components of the Disha Act, aimed at protecting women, including the shutdown of Disha police stations and discontinuing the Disha app. They alleged that state leaders are focused on other activities, neglecting justice for victims.
The MPs urged NHRC and NWC to press the Andhra Pradesh government to restore the Disha initiatives and strengthen protective measures, ensuring justice and safety for women across the state.
