Bridgetown: Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has praised Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for their stellar contributions to India’s victory in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup and their subsequent retirement from T20I cricket. India secured their second T20 World Cup title with a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa at Bridgetown’s Kensington Oval.

Kohli, who was awarded the Player-of-the-Match for his crucial 76 off 59 balls in the final, announced that it was his last T20I appearance. He finishes as India’s second-highest run-scorer in T20Is, amassing 4188 runs in 125 matches at an average of 48.69.

Tendulkar, in a tribute on social media, lauded Kohli as a true champion of the sport, highlighting his resilience and contributions to Indian cricket across six World Cups.

Following Kohli’s announcement, Rohit Sharma also confirmed his retirement from T20Is during the post-match press conference. Rohit, who led India to victory as captain, ends his T20I career as the highest run-scorer with 4231 runs in 159 matches and holds the record for the most centuries in men’s T20Is.

Tendulkar commended Rohit for his evolution from a promising talent to a two-time T20 World Cup-winning captain, celebrating his unwavering commitment and exceptional leadership.
