The devastating effect of the Earthquake in Syria-Turkiye, which occurred on the 6th of February continues.  The horrific natural disaster has killed over 34,000 people and left thousands injured.  Many are feared trapped in the debris, across the earthquake that hit the region, confirmed the AFAD, Turkey’s disaster management agency.

Furthermore, rescuers and volunteers are working around the clock to locate those trapped under rubble despite the cold weather, which is disturbing the rescue operations.  Survivors are also said to be in danger without food or water in the severely cold weather of Turkiye.

In Addition, on the 12th of February, Sunday, the United Nations acknowledged an international failure and urged the United Nations Security Council to help northwest Syria with an ‘immediate ceasefire’ to provide aid to quake victims.  A spokesperson for the White House National Security Council said, “All humanitarian assistance must be permitted to move through all border crossings and distribution of aid must be permitted to all affected areas without delay.”  Rescue operations and aid to survivors are still underway in the earthquake that hit Turkey.

On the 24th of January, at 8:55 P.M. (local time in Turkey) an earthquake of 6.8 magnitudes hit regions of Turkey.  Neighbouring regions like Syria, Lebanon and Iran also suffered due to the earthquake.

Meanwhile, the Turkey Government assured a probe into the illegal and unstable building constructions, which is also a major reason behind the rising number of deaths.  In regard to this, the Turkey Police arrested three constructors linked to the illegal building constructions and issued a warrant for 114 more people.

The probe into the matter is underway.
