On the 23rd of February, Wednesday, the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are underway.

The voting started at 7:00 A.M., and would continue till 6:00 P.M., with an average 22.62% voter turnout, till 11:00 A.M.

In the fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, 59 Assembly constituencies spread over nine districts are contesting. The districts where the polling is being held are Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Banda and Fatehpur.

According to sources, a total of 624 Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) candidates are contesting in the fourth phase. In addition, 2.3 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes in this phase. The voters include 1.14 crore men and 99.3 lakh women. A total of 24,643 polling booths and 13,817 polling centres have been set up in this phase.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI,) Pilibhit recorded 27.44% of votes, Kheri 26.28%, Sitapur 22.13 %, Hardoi 20.13%, Unnao 21.36%,Lucknow 21.41%, Rae Bareli 21.42%, Banda 23.92% and Fatehpur 22.52%, till 11:00 A.M. Notably, in this phase Lakhimpur Kheri is also going to polls. Lakhimpur voting has importance as it is the same district, where last year four farmers were mowed down by cars allegedly driven by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and Minister’s son Ashish Teni.

Meanwhile, among the prominent candidates in this phase are Uttar Pradesh Law Minister Brijesh Pathak, the Samajwadi Party (SP’s) national spokesperson Mr. Anurag Bhadauria, former SP minister Abhishek Mishra, former Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly deputy speaker Nitin Agarwal and Aditi Singh.

Notably, three phases of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are yet to be held, on the 27th of February, the 3rd and the 7th of March.

The results of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections would be announced on the 10th of March.
