The Rajya Sabha proceedings adjourned the Winter Parliament Session ‘sine die.’
On the 22nd of December, Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha Chairman Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, adjourned sine die, after repeated uproar of the opposition leaders.
Notably, on Wednesday, when the session started, the Members of Parliament (MPs) raised objections, over the suspension of 12 MPs, demanding revocation of the orders. With the repeated disturbance from the opposition over the same, the Rajya Sabha Chairman concluded the Winter Parliament Session, a day ahead. Initially, the 2021 Winter Parliament Session was scheduled to end on the 23rd of December, Thursday.
However, it ended with the statement by Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, that the Winter Session concludes today with much below business. He said, “Winter Session of the august House concludes today. I’m not happy to share with you that the House functioned much below its potential. I urged all of you to collectively & individually reflect & introspect if this Session could have been different & better (sic.)”
According to sources, this session recorded the 5th lowest productivity rate with 47.90%, in the span of four years. In addition, there were a total of 18 sittings of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha houses. Getting into details, of the total 95 hours 6 minutes sittings, only 45 hours 34 minute were reported productive whereas maximum times were wasted due to disturbance from opposition.
Before the adjournment of both the session, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, as the traditional ‘Vande Matram’ song was played.
