As many as 36 were injured as 900 bulls and 700 bull tamers participated in the Jallikattu event in Avanipuram of Tamil Nadu. Of the thirty six injured three were gravely hurt in the game on Sunday amid tight security. The injured received treatment at a medical camp set up near the venue and the seriously injured were shifted to a hospital.
The event saw a huge turnout in which 700 bull tamers participated. The event was inaugurated by the state Revenue Minister R.B. Udhaya Kumar and the district Collector Veeraraghava Rao. The event was witnessed by thousands who waited for it from a long time. Present among this were top officials of the district, police administrators, Superintendent of Police and many celebs. The police ensured that all the necessary precautions were taken including medical tests for the bulls and participants that the State Government laid out.
Jallikattu is a traditional sport conducted during Pongal in January every year, But due to the ban placed by the Supreme Court, it was not conducted this year. Repeated protests across the state led to the unanimous passing of amendment on January 23 clearing the path for Jallikattu.
