Today, the 20 AAP MLAs disqualified for holding office of profit withdrew their application from the High Court. The petition challenged the Election Commission’s recommendation to disqualify them. The MLAs stated they would file the plea again after a quick examination of the notification for their disqualification.
Justice Rekha Palli allowed the MLAs to withdraw their application and termed it dismissed as withdrawn. Advocate Manish Vashisht who appeared for one of the AAP MLAs stated the application that was filed to challenge the poll panel’s recommendation to disqualify 20 AAP MLAs was infructuous.
Earlier, the AAP Leaders requested President Kovind not to sign the poll panel’s recommendation before hearing their side of the story. But Kovind did not entertain this request and signed off to disqualify 20 AAP MLAs.
Senior AAP Leader Ashutosh said, “President’s order to disqualify AAP MLAs is unconstitutional and dangerous for democracy.”
Arvind Kejriwal is not letting this set back stop him from gearing up for the bypolls.
On Sunday AAP Chief had a pre scheduled meeting at one of the assembly constituencies Najagarh. The MLA at this constituency Kailash Gahlot is one of the disqualified MLAs. At the met, the AAP Leader asked the residents to vote wisely.
