On the 8th of December, the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was put under house arrest.

The Delhi police put Mr. Kejriwal, the President of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP,) under house arrest. The decision came after his visit to the Singhu border, where the farmers were protesting against the three contentious farm bills.

Mr. Kejriwal during his visit said, “I am not present here as a Chief Minister, I have come here as a sewadar, I have come here to serve the farmers. The farmers put in all their hard work and efforts and grow food for us. They are in a huge problem today, and it is the responsibility of all the citizens of the country to stand with the farmers and work for their service.”

The news of Mr. Kejriwal being under house arrest was confirmed by a senior leader of the AAP, through a tweet.

In addition, the official Twitter handle of the AAP said, “Important :

BJP’s Delhi Police has put Hon’ble CM Shri @ArvindKejriwal under house arrest ever since he visited farmers at Singhu Border yesterday

No one has been permitted to leave or enter his residence.

Saurabh Bharadwaj, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the AAP, said, “CM Kejriwal met farmers at Singhu border yesterday. He had said that we’ll serve them like ‘Sevadars’ and support them. After he returned, Delhi Police barricaded his residence from all sides, putting him in a house arrest like situation, at the behest of (the) Home Ministry.”

However, the Delhi Police denied the allegations of the house arrest and said, it is the general deployment.

Anto Alphonse, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of North, Delhi, said, “This claim of CM Delhi being put on house arrest is incorrect. He exercises his right to free movement within the law of the land. A picture of the house entrance says it all.”

Meanwhile, farmers are continuing with their protests against the three farm bill across Delhi.
