Social activist Anna Hazare extended his support to the protesting farmers and the Bharat Bandh (nationwide strike.)

Mr. Hazare sat on a day long hunger strike on the 8th of December, supporting farmers who are protesting against the three farm laws.

The farmers called for the Bharat Bandh demanding the repealing of the introduced three agri laws, which they see as a threat to the farmers.

Meanwhile, Anna Hazare said the agitation should spread across the Country so that the Government comes under pressure to act in the interests of the cultivators.

In a recorded message, Hazare appreciated farmers’ protests at the borders of Delhi saying no violence has taken place in the last 10 days of the agitation. He said, “I appeal to the people of the Country that the agitation which is going on in Delhi should spread across the Country. The situation needs to create pressure on the Government, and to achieve this, farmers need to hit streets. But no one should resort to violence.”

Mr. Hazare began his fast in Ralegan Siddhi Village, in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra.

Anna Hazare said, “I had backed this cause earlier also, and will continue to do so.”

The farmers protest is underway in Delhi and the nationwide strike is carried out in Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, Haryana and Assam.

Meanwhile, on the 9th of December, the Central Government proposed another meeting with the representatives of the protesting farmers.

The Bharat Bandh agitation began at 11:00 A.M., and would end at 3:00 P.M.
