SP Tripathi said, locals of the district and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Birbhum are unaware of such incidents. The woman who was in the video also refused to make any such claims. In addition, the viral video in which two women were being beaten was said to be a personal dispute and has nothing to do with the current political situation in Birbhum, West Bengal.

The SP said, “I inform everyone that it is fake news… There is no law and order problem here now.” The police further said, “We are trying to find out from where this fake news originated on social media. We will take appropriate action against them.”

The woman also confirmed the news to be fake and said, “But what has been claimed did not happen with me. I have complained to the police to take action against those who have circulated the news.”

On the other hand, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took cognisance and said, “Considering as a fit case of an alleged violation of Right to Life of the innocent citizens, the commission has taken cognizance of the matter and requested its DIG (Investigation) to constitute a team of officers of the Investigation Division of the commission to conduct an on-the-spot fact-finding probe and to submit a report at the earliest, preferably within two weeks.”

On the 2nd of May, after several rounds of counting, the TMC was declared as the winner of the West Bengal Assembly elections 2021. Soon after winning the elections, there were reports of violence in areas like Bardawan, Birbhum and others. The TMC cadres and BJP workers indulged in a fight, leading to the deaths of 14 people, of which 5 were TMC workers and 9 BJP workers. What started as a normal post poll clash, took a massive, aggressive turn when social media was flooded with sensitive videos of violence against women. Soon, the matter started communal riots.
