The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation of Punjab met with Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India

The delegation was led by The BJP’s National Vice President Saudan Singh.  The members who were in the BJP delegation were: Mr. Tarun Chug and Mr. Dushyant Gautam, the National General Secretaries of the BJP, Mr. Ashwani Sharmal, the BJP President of Punjab unit, Mr. Sardar R.P. Singh, the National Spokesperson of the BJP and Mr. Tajinder Pal Singh, the Youth Wing National Secretary of the BJP.

The meeting between PM Modi and the BJP delegation was held on Sunday, the 14th of November.  The meeting was regarding the reopening of the Kartarpur corridor on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti on the 19th of November.   The Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated as Parkash Purb in Punjab, following which they would wish to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, which is being shared by India and Pakistan and is 3km from the Punjab border in the Punjab province of Pakistan. 

During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and requested to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.  In the submitted memorandum, the BJP said, the people of Punjab are expecting the reopening of the corridor, especially when the nation is in an unlocking phase.  Highlighting the 110 crore vaccinations and the vaccination of almost 21 % population of India, the BJP delegation urged the Central Government to order for the reopening of the corridor.

The memorandum read, “On the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj’s ‘Prakash Parv’ on November 19, we request you to give order to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib corridor.  We have faith that you will act immediately.”

After the meeting, Mr. Tajinder Singh Bagga said, “We are hopeful that the Prime Minister will address the demand of Sikh community like he did in the past by ensuring justice to 1984 riots victims.” 

It is to be noted, the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor has been closed since March 2020 due to the Wuhan virus, (COVID-19) pandemic.
