Bodies recovered from collapsed building in Hyderabad

Rescue workers called off the search and rescue on Saturday after five more bodies were pulled out overnight from the wreckage of a building that collapsed in Hyderabad. The death toll is now at 11, that have been pulled from the rubble.

The building under construction collapsed on Thursday night, and on the next day two people, a woman identified as Rekha, and her son were rescued alive from the rubble. This gave hope to the search and rescue members that there might be more survivors. The authorities gave up the search after all the missing people in the incident were accounted for.

Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao said, “The government will pay an ex gratia of Rs. 10 lakhs to each of the bereaved families. We have made arrangements for sending the bodies to their native places.”

The builder of the house, Satyanarayana Singh, was arrested in Kerala. The police are still searching for his son, Anil, who was the supervisor at the construction site of the building. In relation to this incident, the IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao, suspended two Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials deputy commissioner Manohar (Circle-II) and assistant city planner Krishna. This decision was taken as Satyanarayana Singh was given permission to construct a seven-story building in a mere 200 square yard plot. Apart from this construction, 1800 other such buildings were identified and orders for demolition of these buildings has been issued by the Telangana State Government.

The deceased were identified and belonged to Bobbili in Vizianagaram district from the neighboring state Andhra Pradesh. The woman rescued from the rubble on Thursday, Rekha, identified her husband Shiva, from the deceased that were pulled out yesterday from the rubble.
