On the 19th of May, India crossed 1 lakh mark for the cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infections.
According to the Union Health Ministry, approximately 4,970 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus were reported during the last 24 hours, increasing the total from 96,169 to 1,01,139 cases with 3,163 deaths. India has 4th highest number of recent hike in the Novel Coronavirus cases, after the United States (24,329,) Brazil (12,980) and Russia (9,870.)
India reported its first cases of the Novel Coronavirus on the 30th of January in Kerala and now, after 109 days of the outbreak of COVID-19 infections, India has more than 1 lakh cases.
To curb the spread of the virus, India implemented lockdown since the 24th of March, which was revised thrice. On the 18th of May, India entered the 4th phase of the nation wide lockdown.
However, the 4th lockdown came with a lot of ease for the people residing in Green, Orange and Red Zones with access to public transport, markets, salons and other essential commodities. However, containment Zones in every State would still follow strict lockdown norms and limited shops in the area.
The 4th lockdown is proposed to end on the 31st of May.
Meanwhile, states which reported a hike in the cases in the last 24 hours are, Maharashtra, the infection cases climbed to 35,058 followed by Tamil Nadu (11,760,) Gujarat with 11,746 cases and Delhi (10,054.)
Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh crossed 5,000 cases and stood at 5,507 and 5,236 cases of the Novel Coronavirus, respectively.
Other states which reported 4,000 and less than 4,000 cases of COVID-19 infections are: Uttar Pradesh (4,605,) West Bengal (2,825) and Andhra Pradesh (2,432,) Punjab (1,980,) Telangana (1,592,) Bihar (1,432,) Jammu and Kashmir (1,289,) Karnataka (1,246) Haryana (928,) Odisha (876,) Kerala (631,) Jharkhand (228,) Chandigarh (196,) Tripura (165,) Assam (116,) Uttarakhand (96,) Himachal Pradesh 90,) and Goa (38.)
Meanwhile, Globally, 4,890,680 people have been infected and the death toll now stands at 320,180
