The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO,) on the 31st of August, selected Manogya Singh Suyansh, a Delhi student, to watch Chandrayaan 2 landing on the Moon’s surface.  Suyansh will witness the historic landing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Manogya Singh Suyansh was selected based on the ISRO Space Quiz, which was conducted for students from the 8th to 10th standard to create awareness amongst the students about Chandrayaan 2.

The rule for winning the quiz was a student must have the most number of correct answers in 10 minutes.  The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and other boards to encourage the students to take part in the quiz.

Suyansh is among the 60 students who have been selected from across the Country to watch the landing of Chandrayaan 2 at the ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru.

The Chandrayaan 2 will land on the surface of the Moon on the 7th of September.

The letter sent to Manogya read, “ISRO has great pleasure in informing that you have been selected to watch the historical Chandrayaan 2 moon landing on the early hours of September 07, 2019 at the ISRO Tracking Centre (ISTRAC), Bengaluru, in the presence of Honourable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi Ji. You are requested to reach Bengaluru by 1400 hrs on Friday, September 06, 2019 along with one parent/guardian.”

If successful, India will become the fourth country to land on the surface of the Moon.  Till now, only Russia, China and the United States of America landed on the surface of the Moon.

Stay tuned for further updates.
