A Mumbai-Dubai passenger was detained at the Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Thursday after an amount of Rs. 28 Lakhs in cash was seized from him in new denominations of Rs. 2000 notes. The accused, Ashraf Veetil was detained at the airport as he was about to board a Dubai-bound Jet Airways flight. Ashraf was caught carrying the new currency in his bag.

A Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport official issued a statement that “When his bags were checked, Ashraf was found carrying Rs. 2000 notes worth 28 lakhs.”

The notes were stuffed in a check in bag. The official also said, These bills were hidden inside a jeans pant, over which he had kept various items like cooker, toys and tissue papers”

Ashraf has been detained and is being interrogated in this regard by the Airport officials.
