In Goa, another horrific incident of tourist attack was reported on the 30th of March, Thursday evening.
According to sources, a Dutch woman traveler from the Netherlands was allegedly harassed by an employee at the bar of the hotel, where she was residing. The 27 year old traveler was in Canacona, where a bar employee identified as Abhishek Verma attacked her with a knife.
The accused Abhishek Verma, a native of Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, worked as a bartender at the hotel in the Pernem area where the Dutch woman had made a reservation.
Nidhin Valsan, the Superintendent of Police (SP) North Goa registered a case based on the complaint of the victim. The Dutch citizen, in her complaint said that an unknown man aged between 25 to 30 years trespassed into her tent and tried to assault her. When she screamed, the bartender (Abhishek Verma) tried to hold her and threatened her.
Hearing the woman’s screams, a local man named Eurico arrived at the scene, forcing the accused to flee. However, he returned to the tent armed with a knife and attacked the tourist and Eurico before running away again. The woman and Eurico received serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at a Goa hospital.
Meanwhile, the Police registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to trespassing, outraging modesty, attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt, amongst others.
A detailed investigation into the matter is underway.
