Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister of India, on the 14th of May, announced the breakdown of the announced financial package of Rs. 20 lakh crores for India.

After issuing relief financial aid for small business, NBFIs and employees, Ms. Sitharama today announced financial aid for migrants, street vendors, traders, self-employed people and small farmers.

The Central Government announced free food grain supply to all migrants who are non–card holders amounting to Rs. 3,500 crores for the next two months.

the financial package would benefit 8 crore migrant workers with free food grains.  The ration for 2 months would include 5 kg of rice or wheat and 1 kg of chana or pulses, for all those migrants who do not fall under the Food Security Act.

Ms. Siharaman said, “Free food grains supply to all migrants for the next 2 months– for non-card holders, they shall be given 5kg wheat or rice per person and 1 kg chana per family per month for the next 2 months. About 8 crore migrants will benefit from Rs 3,500 crore to be spent on this by the Centre.”

In regard to this, the Central Government would also initiate ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ which would benefit 67 crore beneficiaries in nearly 23 states covering 83% of the Public Distribution System (PDS) population.

Besides, PDS ration cards would be portable allowing migrants to use one ration card in any Indian state.

This is the second day announcement of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan stimulus package of Rs. 20 lakh crores, announced to boost economy and help Indians suffering during the pandemic crisis.
