The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police confirmed the encounter news of gangster Vikas Dubey.

The incident took place when the Uttar Pradesh STF were taking Vikas Dubey back to Kanpur and their car toppled leaving the police and the accused injured in an accident.

However, they escaped the accident with minor injuries.  During the time, Vikas Dubey snatched a pistol from the police and tried to escape, when he refused to surrender, police shot him

The Kanpur Police released a statement regarding the incident and said, “The car overturned and policemen and the accused were injured.  Then Vikas Dubey grabbed a gun from an injured policeman and ran.  The police team caught up and surrounded him and tried to get him to surrender, but he refused and started firing.  The police had to fire back in self defence,”  The statement further read,

“Vikas Dubey was injured and taken to hospital. He died during treatment.”

The Encounter of Vikas Dubey before a court hearing, gained a lot of criticism from the opposition parties and netizens.

On the 3rd of July, Vikash Dubey killed 8  policemen in a shootout in Bikru village in Kanpur.

The team of Uttar Pradesh police went to Bikru to arrest Vikash Dubey, a gangster in Kanpur.

However, he killed all the policemen and was absconding since last week.  He was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Police on the morning of the 9th of July.

According to sources, Dubey was arrested outside the Mahakal temple in Ujjain.  After his darshan, he told the security guards he wanted to surrender and asked them to call the police.

He was in a Police convoy with the STF Uttar Pradesh and was coming back to Kanpur, when the encounter happened.

Though Vikas Dubey was a wanted criminal with more than 60 criminal cases including murder, extortion, kidnapping, rioting and others, people raised questions on thejudiciary system and justice.

Akhilesh Yadav, the President of the Samajwadi Party (SP) In a tweet said, “दरअसल ये कार नहीं पलटी है, राज़ खुलने से सरकार पलटने से बचाई गयी है.”

Another Samajwadi Party leader Rais Shaikh said, the details of how the encounter took place is a poorly written script inferring, the police were lying about Dubey being shot while trying to escape.

Surendra Rajput, the Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress (INC) said, “Our fears have come true. After his surrender in Madhya Pradesh yesterday, I had voiced my apprehension whether Vikas Dubey would be brought back safely. The encounter theory of the STF is surprisingly similar.  Both Prabhat (who was killed in an encounter on Thursday) and Vikas were killed in police custody.  The entire episode calls for a high-level inquiry.”

Jitin Prasada, a senior leader of the INC also criticised the Uttar Pradesh Government and Police for the encounter.

The leader said, “With the end of Vikas Dubey in custody, the government has ensured that the trail which would have exposed his nexus with people in positions of power who allowed criminals like him to flourish, has ended too.”

A senior Police officer and one of the founders of the STF Uttar Pradesh said, “The Special Task Force (STF) now has very bad scriptwriters and the Vikas Dubey story proves it.  Why would someone, who had surrendered on Thursday in Madhya Pradesh to escape being killed, try to escape on Friday.”

Ms. Mayawati, the President of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the Vikas Dubey encounter.
