GES Theme: Women First, Prosperity for All

Hyderabad is all geared up for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2017 from November 28 to 30. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating this Summit. The daughter and advisor to the U.S. President Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump will be leading a group of American delegates to attend the GES. This Summit will host nearly 1500 representatives from 150 countries.

This summit is a gathering of hundreds of budding, ambitious and well known entrepreneurs as well as investors and supporters of this eco system.

This year’s summit will highlight the theme “Women First, Prosperity For All.” The focus would be on supporting women entrepreneurs and fostering economic growth globally.

GES 2017, plans on creating an environment to empower innovators especially women, to take their ideas to the next level.

This would be the first time in eight years of this event where there will be more women participants than men.

Ankita Vashishta, the CEO of Saha Fund stated they started the organization after acknowledging the platforms to support women founders were scarce. “Only 3% of women run startups are funded,” Ankita said.

Many women entrepreneurs are coming up with extraordinary innovations that are transforming millions of lives around the world. But for these innovative products and services to reach a wider audience, they need to be appropriately funded.

On Monday, women leaders from several organizations announced the launch of Women Enabling Inventions, Innovations, Social and Entrepreneurship (WISE.)

Nivruti Rai Country Head of Intel, Nisha Biswal President of U.S. India Business Council (USIBC) and Vanita Narayanan Chairman of IBM India, are a few of the members of WISE.

A Nasscom report released this month showed women comprised of only 11% in a base of 5000 startups in India.

Sangeeta Gupta, Senior Vice President at Nasscom stated 5 years ago the percentage of women entrepreneurs was 7% and it has been picking up gradually.

Not just them but there are many women whose names are dwarfed in this developing world. Incompetent gain fame while the competent do not. There still are women in this sphere who care about others and strive hard for success. Their actions prove that when women do better, countries do better.
