The opposition in India has decided to observe November 8th as a Black Day. Last year Narendra Modi demonetized Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes on 8th November.

The leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “Announcement made on November 8 is the scam of the century, which is why we are observing this as (a) Black Day.”

The angered politician said, “Demonetisation was an ill conceived and hasty decision of the Government. It is unprecedented, perhaps in the entire world, that a government had to alter its policy 135 times within a month.”

On the 8th of November, 18 political parties will carry out protests across the country against the ill effects of Demonetization. A few of the parties that will be part of the protest are, Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD,) Trinamool, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK.)

Trinamool leader, Derek O’Brien said, “Each political party will try to give a regional name to observe this as a ‘Black Day’ and will hold protests and processions.”

He further added, “History of modern India will remember the ‘scam’ which took place on November 8. We had raised a number of questions and our doubts regarding the policy but the Government could not answer or erase our doubts.”
