Delhi: Union government is working with a clear agenda of appointing vacant election commissioners (EC) by March 15, 2024. Sources said that two vacant EC posts will be filled before the general elections following the due procedure.

Search committee consisting of Law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, home secretary and others as members had submitted a list of five names. Prime minister Narendra Modi, Congress party leader at Parliament Adhir Ranjan Choudhury and other ministers who were members of the committee will finalize one name.

Finally the president of India will approve the name and appoint commissioners. The committee is scheduled to hold a meeting on March 15. They are likely to fill one vacancy that occurred due to the resignation of one member Anoop Chandra Pandey in February. Surprisingly Arun Goyal tendered resignation and the government is working on appointing a new commissioner in his place.

Meanwhile, sources at ECI said that there were no clashes or difference of opinions between Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Arun Goyal.
