Hyderabadi Duped Through Facebook

A Hyderabadi man was embezzled out of Rs. 1.42 lakhs by a Nigerian man based in Mumbai.  The accused, identified as Ikechukuwu Okoro, disguised himself as a woman and connected with Syed Zafar Ahmed on Facebook for a business deal.

Ahmed, a resident of Hyderabad met an Angelina Francis on Facebook who claimed to be an employee at Phylorzeric, an England based pharmaceutical company.

The two got talking and the ‘apparent’ woman gave Syed a business proposal. She asked him to buy a pack of ‘alotic wild nuts’ from her company. Syed was convinced and purchased the nuts for Rs. 1.42 lakhs from a supplier in Meghalaya through an online transaction.

Angelina told Syed to hand over the nuts to a company representative who would buy it for a higher price from him. But to Syed’s surprise, the representative instead asked him to buy another 20 packets costing Rs. 28.5 lakhs, which Syed refused.

Syed was disappointed by the futile business deal and demanded his money back. But he realized he was duped when Angelina stopped answering his calls. After this, Syed placed a complaint with the Cyberabad Cyber Crime police.

The officials immediately analyzed the bank transactions made by Syed and tracked down Okoro in Navi Mumbai. The police reported, Okoro confessed to his crime and also stated he was duping other people in a similar manner.

The accused has been taken into judicial remand.
