On the 16th of April, India reported 1,200 fresh cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19. This is the highest number of cases reported in one day till date.
While Maharashtra is the worst hit State by the pandemic illness the Novel Coronavirus, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan are also reporting many cases taking the tally to 1,000 plus.
Maharashtra has 2,916 cases, Delhi (1,578) Tamil Nadu (1,242) and Rajasthan (1,101) cases till date.
After these 4 states, Madhya Pradesh is witnessing a hike in the number of positive cases. On the 15th of April, Madhya Pradesh reported 197 new cases of the Novel Coronavirusand on the 16th of April till 10:00 A.M., 42 fresh cases came in Indore. In Madhya Pradesh, Indore has the majority of COVID-19 cases, 586 cases.
Considering the day to day increasing cases, on the 14th of April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a second lockdown, which is proposed to end on the 3rd of May. In regard to the lockdown, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on the 15th of April, issued a set of guidelines for the citizens of India and state governments to be followed during the lockdown period.
The Government of India (GoI) emphasised on the need of social distancing as a major precaution to fight the Novel Coronavirus.
Indian Government also identified 170 districts as hotspots for the spread of the virus and 207 districts as potential hotspots. These districts would be under strict observation during the lockdown.
India reported a total of 12,438 COVID-19 positive cases with 422 deaths till the 16th of April.
