Lok Sabha Elections – ‘TMC Is Trinamool Tolabaji Tax,’ Says Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 2nd of February, launched the campaign of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Narendra Modi addressed a public rally, in Durgapur, West Bengal and criticised Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, and alleged, she is choking the democracy in Bengal.

Speaking about the previous Government in West Bengal, Modi said, “She (Mamata Banerjee) should know it did not work then and it will not work now.”

Moving ahead with his criticism against the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress (TMC,) PM Modi said, “Bengal has understood that the Trinamool Congress is only busy with the ‘syndicate’. Mamata Banerjee is not concerned about Bengal’s development. In fact, TMC doesn’t even look at projects, unless they don’t see the gains they can get through the ‘syndicate.’” He also referred to the TMC as triple ‘T,’ Trinamool Tolabaji Tax, which every citizen of Bengal has to pay in order to get admissions in educational institutions and for recruitment.

Modi also spoke about the United India Rally held on the 19th of January and said, the alliance of the parties from across India is an alliance against the people. He said, “Those who would not see face-to-face four years ago, are now hugging each other.”

PM Modi, during his address, pled the TMC to support Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019. The Bill will provide citizenship to the Sikhs, the Hindus, the Jains, the Buddhists, the Muslims, the Christians and the Parsis belonging to countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The Bill is directed towards those individuals who are residing in India since before the 31st of December, 2014.

Apart from the Durgapur rally, Mr. Modi also attended an event organised by the Matua community (a Scheduled Caste,) in Thakurnagar, West Bengal.

The BJP is expected to conduct more rallies in West Bengal, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled between April and May 2019. The major parties contesting are the Indian National Congress (INC) and the BJP.
