The Mumbai floods killed nearly 76 people and left 38 people injured. The figures of the victims in the flood, which ravaged parts of Maharashtra and Mumbai, were confirmed by the State Government. Besides deaths due to floods, a total 138 people also died due to rain related accidents including landslides, road accidents and building collapse accidents.

Vijay Wadettiwar, the Relief and Rehabilitation Minister of Maharashtra said, “138 accidental deaths reported in Maharashtra due to rain and other monsoon-related incidents.”

On the 24th of July, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) released a statement and confirmed the same. The CMO also said, as of now, 30 people are missing in the flood affected areas of Maharashtra. Areas like Raigad, Ratnagiri districts in the coastal Konkan region and Kolhapur district in western Maharashtra, have been worst affected by the floods. In addition, the State has been witnessing heavy rain since the past few days.

All the aforementioned incidents have happened in the past two days, due to the uncontrollable rain situation in Maharashtra. Although the Government of Maharashtra evacuated 90,000 people, many people are still stuck in low lying areas. Adding to the humans, approximately 75 animals have also perished.

To take a review of the situation, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray would visit the flood hit areas in Raigad, Taliye village and other low lying areas. The CM also instructed the concerned officials to continue the rescue operation in the State. The CM also announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the families who lost their kin in the flood and for the injured, the hospital treatment would be borne by the Government of Maharashtra.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are continuing the rescue operation. In addition, six teams of theIndian Army and the Indian Navy would reach Maharashtra to help in the ongoing rescue operation.
