The Tamil Nadu man who issued death threats to the Karnataka HC judges has been sent to eight days of judicial custody. On the 23rd of March, the Karnataka Police confirmed his arrest and said he has been remanded for further investigation.
According to sources, the Tamil Nadu man, whose identity is anonymous, has issued death threats to the Karnataka HC judges, who announced the verdict in the Karnataka Hijab Row issue.
On the 15th of March, the Karnataka HC bench led by HC Chief Justice Ms. Ritu Raj Awasthi, announced to withhold the Hijab ban, saying the practice is not mandatory in Islam. The other two judges were Justice J.M. Khasi and Justice Krishna N. Dixit.
The Karnataka Home Minister Mr. Araga Jnanendra said, “A man who had allegedly issued death threats to three High Court judges following their verdict on hijab issue has been remanded to police custody for eight days by a magistrate here in Bengaluru.” He further said, “The state government is taking the matter of threats to judges very seriously, as it amounts challenging the system. The man from Tamil Nadu has been brought to Bengaluru by state police for further investigation.”
He further added, the Karnataka Government is looking into the matter as it is a serious threat to the judicial system. The Government also provided Y category security to all the three judges, who pronounced the Hijab Row verdict.
