Mahendra Singh Dhoni, a legendary player and former Captain of the Indian Cricket Team, will begin his training with the Parachute Regiment battalion from the 31st of July.

M.S. Dhoni will patrol and be on guard duty with the Parachute Regiment battalion in the Kashmir Valley, from the 31st of July to the 15th of August as a part of Victor Force.

A statement released by the Indian Army states, “The former India captain will stay with the army till the 15th of August.” The statement further read, “The unit is in Kashmir as part of Victor Force. He’ll be taking duties of patrolling, guard and post duty and will be staying with troops.”

On the 25th of July, Dhoni left for Bengaluru and will stay with the Parachute Regiment battalion till the 31st of July.

Recently, on the 21st of July, General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of the Army Staff, approved the request of M.S. Dhoni to train with the Parachute Regiment battalion.

Although Dhoni will train with the Parachute Regiment battalion, he will not be a part of any operation in Jammu and Kashmir.

A source close to Dhoni, who wished to remain anonymous, spoke about the plan and said, “Just like Dhoni has been one of the greatest servants of Indian cricket, his love for the armed forces is also well known. This idea that he would go and spend time with his regiment was in the pipeline for a while but it took a backseat due to his cricketing commitments.” The source further added, “This will also help increase awareness among the youth about the armed forces and that is what Dhoni wants.”

M.S. Dhoni, who wished to train with the Parachute Regiment battalion, refused to be a part of the Indian squad which will play against West Indies in the West Indies Tour 2019. The West Indies tour of India starts from the 3rd of August.
