Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of the Reliance Industries, once again topped the list as India’s richest man.
According to the Indian Infoline Finance Limited (IIFL) Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2019, Ambani is on the top with a net worth of Rs. 3,80,700 crores, whereas S.P. Hinduja & family, who are settled in London, hold the second position, with assets worth Rs 1,86,500 crores.
This is the 8th consecutive year Mukesh Ambani was declared the richest man of India. He has held the position since 2011.
The IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List also revealed the number of Indians, whose net worth is more than Rs. 1,000 crores, increased from 831 to 953, while the number of billionaires in terms of U.S. dollars reduced from 141 to 138.
The list stated, “The combined wealth of top 25 in the list equates to 10 percent of India’s GDP and that of 953 accounts for 27 %.”
The top 10 richest Indians are Mukesh Ambani (Rs. 3,80,700 crores,) S.P. Hinduja (Rs 1,86,500 crores,) Azim Premji (Rs.1,17,100 crores,) L.N. Mittal (Rs. 1,07,300 crores,) Gautam Adani (Rs. 94,500 crores,) Uday Kotak (Rs. 94,100 crores,) Cyrus S. Poonawalla (Rs. 88,800 crores,) Cyrus Pallonji Mistry (Rs. 76,800 crores,) Shapoor Pallonji (Rs.76,800 crores) and Dilip Shanghvi (Rs. 71,500 crores.)
Anas Rahman Junaid, the Managing Director and Chief Researcher of Hurun Report India, said, “Globally, the wealth creators drive the growth and therefore play a vital role in shaping the economy. With Indian Government setting its sight on USD 5 trillion GDP mark we are confident that the size of the India Rich List will easily triple in the next 5 years.”
Apart from this, there are a total of 82 Non Resident Indians (NRIs) on the Hurun list, out of which, 76 % are self made businessmen. Ritesh Agarwal, the 25 year old founder of Oyo Hotels & Homes, is the youngest self made businessman with a net worth Rs. 7,500 crores. Another self made entrepreneur in the under 40 category is Divyank Turakhia, the 37 year old founder of Media.net.
Telugu businessmen P. Pitchi Reddy (Rs. 13,400 crores,) the Chairman of Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) and P.V. Krishna Reddy (Rs. 12,900 crores,) the Managing Director of MEIL secured 57th and 63rd position in the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2019.
