In a shocking update in Mumbai, Maharashtra, twenty one Indian Navy sailors tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus infection.
On the 17th of April, the Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection was traced to the sailors of the Indian Navy. All the infected sailors are under quarantine at a naval hospital in Mumbai.
Soon after the cases were reported, the Navy started a search operation tracing all the people who were in contact with these 21 sailors.
The Indian Navy released a statement which read, “A total of 21 serving personnel have been tested positive for COVID-19 within naval premises at Mumbai. This number includes 20 sailors of INS Angre, a shore establishment.”
The sailors possibly got the infection from an officer, who was reported COVID-19 positive on the 7th of April. Out of 21 sailors, 14 of them did not show the symptoms of COVID-19.
However, the sailors were not serving onboard warships and were not on any submarine. All the sailors were residing at INS Angre, a shore based depot providing logistical and administrative support to naval operations.
All the sailors are under quarantine homes and are undergoing treatment.
With these updates, Indian Army has 8 COVID-19 patients and India Navy has 22 Patients who tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus infection till date.
Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases reported in India are 14,425 with 11,892 active cases, 2,045 recoveries and 488 deaths till the 18th of April.
